What Is VoIP and How Does It Work?
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a modern telephone service that allows you to make and receive calls over your broadband internet connection instead of using a traditional landline. With EveryDay VoIP, your phone service is delivered securely over the internet, providing crystal-clear call quality, advanced calling features, and often lower monthly costs than a conventional telephone line.
Instead of sending your voice over copper telephone cables, VoIP converts your voice into digital data and securely transmits it over your internet connection.
From your perspective, using VoIP is just like using a traditional telephone:
- Pick up your handset.
- Dial the number.
- Speak as normal.
The only difference is that your calls are carried over your broadband connection.
What Do I Need?To use EveryDay VoIP, you'll need:
- A stable broadband internet connection.
- An approved EveryDay VoIP phone supplied by us or one of our authorised partners.
- An active EveryDay VoIP account.
Our approved devices arrive pre-configured, meaning there's no complicated setup required. Simply connect the phone to your internet router using the supplied network cable, and it should automatically register with our network.
What Are the Benefits?EveryDay VoIP offers a range of benefits compared with a traditional landline, including:
- Crystal-clear HD voice quality.
- Lower monthly call costs.
- Keep your existing telephone number (subject to successful porting).
- Voicemail included.
- Call forwarding features.
- Reliable UK, US and European services.
- Easy online account management through the Customer Portal.
No. Your EveryDay VoIP service works over your broadband connection, so a traditional analogue telephone line is not required.
Will My Existing Telephone Number Work?In most cases, yes. We can usually transfer (or "port") your existing number to EveryDay VoIP, allowing you to keep the same telephone number without interruption. Number transfers are subject to eligibility and industry porting processes.
What Happens If My Internet Stops Working?Because VoIP relies on your internet connection, your phone service will also be unavailable if your broadband service loses connectivity or power.
For this reason, we recommend that customers always have access to an alternative method of communication, such as a mobile phone, particularly if emergency calling may be required.
